Project Description

In April 2015, I had the honor to give a lecture about the use of innovative materials in Dutch Fashion in Belgrade, Serbia. It was the second time I got invited to give a lecture in KC GRAD, a cultural centre in Belgrade. The first time was in 2013, when I just published my book ‘The Shoe of Jan Jansen’. This time around, the visit to Belgrade consisted of an entire week full of inspiration. KC GRAD created a program – with the support of the Dutch ambassy – called ‘Exploring Inspirations’. Besides me, fashion designers Conny Groenewegen and Sanne Jansen as well as fashion anthropologist Charlotte Corstanje were invited to be a part of this inspirational adventure in the Balkan. And what a great week we had. We not only gave lectures in KC GRAD in Belgrade, we also visited the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, where we got to see amazing costumes from the 19th century, and got a tour at the accessories-expo at the Museum of Applied Arts of Belgrade. The closure of the week was a visit to the village of Sirogojno, known for its traditional knitting and wool industry.
