Project Description

Dear suit,

My magical powers-suit, that’s how I always refer to you. Want to know why? Because the moment I put you on in the morning, you work your magic. You are comfortable like pyjamas; yet strong and sophisticated like a gown. You give me Wonder Woman-magic powers, without limiting me as her outfit does. When worn with a covering top and high heels you are almost a uniform, the famous big shoulders-power suit in the classical Coco Chanel / Hillary Clinton-way. But that’s not the power suit I am looking for. To me, that’s the kind of outfit worn by women who want to imitate uptight masculine looks, only to be taken serious as a woman. Why would we? We can be powerful in our own soft, feminine, relaxed way.

So if I don’t need a classical power suit, what do I want? I want magical powers; a magical powers-suit! That’s why I wear you. Just you. Without decoration, without top underneath, without high heels – just sneakers will do. I want to move, run, laugh and dance with you on. You allow me to, so thank you. Thank you for letting me work my own magic. You suit me like my smile.

Now everybody dance.

All the main items in this series of Love Notes come from the lovingly compiled collection of Moise, a beautiful fashion boutique in Amsterdam. Monique de Randamie, owner of Moise, about this Humanoid suit:

The fabric of this suit, with beautiful colours woven in, is the best part if you ask me. The material is in this way representative for the craftsmanship and eye for detail of Dutch fashion brand Humanoid. I also appreciate how both pieces of the suit can be worn separately; you don’t need to wear them as a suit. You can for example wear the jacket on different pants like I would do.’

We love our fashion. Noted.

Welcome to the second series of Love Notes. These visual and textual odes put our favourite looks for fall-winter 2017/18 in the spotlight. The sweater we want to live in, the bag we want to marry and that perfect crispy-white blouse for example. These Love Notes are made with love by fashion writer Lisa Goudsmit and photographer Laila Cohen, in collaboration with stylist Suuz Bisschops, make-up artist Yo-kaw Pat, hair stylist Blanca Eppinga and models Ayesha and Panjua. This series of Love Notes is also a co-operation with fashion boutique Moise in Amsterdam. Read our interview with founder Monique de Randamie here.

Appreciating the items that surround us were status quo decades ago – as was saving for that one piece you really, really wanted to get for your wardrobe. Nowadays, many consumers seem to have lost the contact with the clothing on their backs. And with the bags on their back, for that matter. We want to rejuvenate that sentiment for our wardrobes, especially for the items we invest in. As Monique de Randamie puts it: ‘My contribution to a more sustainable fashion industry is offering investment pieces that people can wear for years. Instead of buying four fast fashion trousers, my customers buy one pair of trousers at Moise.’ Amen.

Enjoy these Love Notes and go ahead, write your wardrobe one as well.
